A Little Experiment With Archery

Sometimes you need a break with art. It is my life, but there are other things to do in life. I like to get out and do things that are physical from time to time. Nobody needs to just be stuck idle all the time, so it is a good idea for anybody. Your body isn’t made to stay still, so when you don’t use it, then it will start to break down. This is why I took up archery as a new hobby and sport.

Why archery though? That’s pretty simple – I watched The Hunger Games and got fascinated by it. I’m not alone in this. That movie has given the sport of archery a huge jump start. So I decided to look into it myself. There were a lot of compound bow comparison guides out there, and since it seems like the most common type of bow to start out with I gave it a shot.

The first thing I wanted was a bow that I was able to actually able to comfortably pull it back. But I also didn’t want to outgrow a bow soon after I got it. For this I got a compound bow that had an adjustable draw weight so I could start out at a lower weight and then scale up to a stronger draw as I got stronger. This is the ideal bow for people who are just starting out, as you don’t have to keep buying new bows once you outgrow the one you already have.

Since starting my upper body has increased dramatically. Not only that, it also helps with focus and concentration. You can’t just fire a bow and hope to hit something. You have to be able to focus on your target. Starting out you probably won’t be doing very good, so it takes a lot of patience and practice to become decent. With time I expect to get good at this. Hopefully good enough to try my hand at competitions. If you are looking for a new hobby, then you should give archery a try too!
